Georgia didn’t hear me as I crept up behind her. She let out a squeak of surprise as I wrapped my arms around her waist. “Hello, pet,” I whispered, pressing my lips to her neck.
“Hello yourself,” she replied with a giggle.
I’d found her in the kitchen, wearing her favourite apron that said “Hot stuff coming through,” slaving away at the countertops. Gluttony loved to cook, and bake, and sauté, and slice, and whatever else chefs liked to do. She enjoyed creating succulent dishes—everything from appetisers to desserts, to midnight snacks—just as much as she enjoyed eating them. It wasn’t the first time she’d been so engrossed that she hadn’t heard me knocking and entering.
I cupped her belly, eight months heavy with a baby girl, and lay my chin on her shoulder. “What are you making?”
“It’s a plain tiffin,” she replied. “It’s usually made with raisins as well, but this baby has completely put me off fruit.”
“Is that just an excuse not to eat fruit?” I quipped.
